Sensing Chicago

Chicago History Museum
Chicago, Illinois

The Chicago History Museum set the bar high for its new children’s gallery. Focusing on creating an engaging, memorable, and surprising visitor experience, Amaze Design developed the concept of Sensing Chicago. In this exhibit, children, their friends, and families use their eyes, ears, noses, hands, and tongues to find history.

In Touch, children can feel what riding a high-wheel bicycle might have been like over a Chicago street paved with wooden bricks. A table-top map of Chicago with hands-on interactives helps them to discover Chicago through their noses, and a kid-sized soft sculpture of a hot dog bun lets kids be a Chicago-style hot dog with all their favorite toppings. Amaze Design developed Sensing Chicago as part of the Chicago History Museum’s facility-wide renovation.
