Whaling Museum

Nantucket Historical Association
Nantucket, Massachusetts

In 2005, the Nantucket Historical Association completed a major restoration and expansion to its Whaling Museum. The museum now serves as the operational hub for all NHA properties and museums.

Exhibits focus on the Nantucket whaling story comprising four themes: Making a Living, Peopling the Island, Ideologies, and The Island Resort. The museum features the skeleton of a 46-foot-long sperm whale, an original 28-foot-long 19th-century whaleboat, the original Fresnel lens from Sankaty Head Light built in 1849, and the restored 1847 Hadwen & Barney Oil and Candle Factory.
